Day 43 – 5 April 2012
Distance: 106 km
Time: 5:04
Terrain: Flat
Roads: Florida average
Scenery: Long straight roads through big forests.
There’s not much to say about this day, it was about as exciting as watching grass grow. My mind is set on Sarasota and Sarasota only. Now that it’s only 285 km left it feels almost as if I’m there. Except I’m not. It still is three more days, perhaps two if the winds decide to help me out.
On my free day I plan on doing nothing, just hanging out in a house (!) and watch tv. Maaaaan I look forward to that.
PS. I was running low on fruit so I went to Walmart first thing in the morning and bought apples, grapes, mandarines and….cinnamon rolls. They only had an 8-pack. After eating all of them I came to the conclusion that this isn’t how a great athlete would do. If you want to be great, train like the great. No more sweet stuff while in the USA. Basta!
As you can see it’s now official, God has a billboard of his/hers own.

Day 42 – 4 April 2012
Distance: 116 km
Time: 5:54
Terrain: Flat
Roads: Perfect
Scenery: Long straight roads through big forests.
This morning started with me yelling at my alarm clock to go to hell. I did it. Loud. It felt right at the moment.
When I stuck my head out of the tent this morning I thought I was in The Lord Of The Rings, it was awesome. But then I unzipped my sleeping bag and the reality slap me across the face, the reality in this case being the can of beans I had for dinner.
After breakfast I started riding and I could tell it was going to be a slow day. After 12 minutes I have a deja vu moment. No. NO. It can’t be, I tell my self ten times. I pick up my phone, turn on the compass and yes, YES, it can be and it is, I had ridden in the wrong direction. That was a sure sign of exactly how tired I was.
[insert any bad word]
About 35 km later I meet a dude, John, in a little town that says he’s an athlete and likes helping other athletes out. He has campsite he let travelers use for free and also offered me a shower. I was about to give up on that day and just take a shower and pass out under a tree, but then ”John” said something that made me change my mind. He sid he was, among other things, a life coach.
There is a lot of things I probably need help with, but guidance in my life, thanks, but no thanks.
After what seemed like a lifetime I reached Perry, one of the least impressive towns I’ve seen this far. The only positive thing was that I met a Swedish and Norwegian couple at the buffet. Oh, there was a buffet…which automatically upgrades the town to a solid 3.

Day 41 – 3 April 2012
Distance: 102 km
Time: 4:58
Terrain: Flat
Roads: Perfect
Scenery: Long straight roads through big forests, close to the ocean.
Around 15:00 I noticed a man was sitting on the side of the road, trying to connect with one of the drivers in the cars that were passing by. Since nobody else stopped I did. It didn’t take long to realize this man was or had been some kind if addict, that was obvious from his appearance. Even addicts need help so I asked what I could do for him. Nothing, he replied, and instead started telling me he was sick, the same illness his brother died of. After a while I asked again if he needed water, food, fruit, cinnamon buns (!), but no, he just wanted to live.
When I said I was going to continue riding he wished me the best, I answered something like ”I hope you’ll be alright”.
I’m going to die, he said to that, with a sad voice.
Being mentally ill (physically too of course) must be such a tough hump to get over. Hmmm.
The place I decided was going to be my bed room for the night is deserted, only a car or two passed every 15 min or so. Quite nice, maybe I’ll be able to sleep a little longer than I have lately. Back I February when I was in Arizona, New Mexico and western Texas it got really cold at night and slipping into the sleeping bag was such a relief. I fell asleep 2 seconds after dinner every night and slept at least ten hours.
That’s long gone now, the heat makes everything less comfortable. I’m getting closer to my dream even without sleep, Miami is only 900 km away.

Man tager vad man haver
Every time the chain needs cleaning I cut off a piece of my towel and use it as a rag. It work like a charm, only bad thing is my towel is about the size of a napkin now.

Day 40 – 2 April 2012
Distance: 118 km
Time: 5:54
Terrain: Flat
Roads: Perfect
Scenery: Big part of todays ride was through small beach towns.
Nothing spectacular happened all day long and then, when I least expected it I was in the middle of a cop movie. First there was one cop car, then a second and what do you know, they called in the professional interrogator. A total of four cops to make sure I wasn’t a terrorist. ”Do you have any weapons”, they asked me. Yes, I’m hiding WMD in my pants. Jesus! What a waste of everybody’s time. Surly there must be better ways of filming a fighter jet than stopping on the highway on a bicycle, pulling out an iPhone and filming straight up in the sky and getting nothing but backlight.
Anyway.
I was thinking about cinnamon buns all day long. When I finally came to Port St Joe around 20:00, the stores had nothing but donuts. Damn it! Not that I need to cinnamon buns, Loosing weight is a lot easier without eating a bunch of sweets every day. Getting into the perfect ”race weight” hasn’t been easy for me. Even though I ride for many hours daily my weight hasn’t shifted at all. That’s weird. Perhaps I have always been in race weight, just not in race shape.
A guy from my swimming club back home ran a 10 km race yesterday and crossed the finish line in 35:03. What. The. Hell. Is. Going. On. Congrats, Olle Norberg! That will be tough to beat, but I’m looking to go sub 38 in may.

I got to Mexico Beach at a perfect time for setting up camp. But then again, "maybe I could continue a little longer".

Guantanamo
Just wasted 45 min being interrogated by the police for taking a picture close to a air force base.
Best question: Have you received money for filming military objects in the US?
Answer: No, but a lady in Texas gave me 20 bucks to buy pizza. That’s it, no more donations.
